The ministry of Shepherd's Gate has been totally dependant upon God since it's inception in 1984 over 23 years ago. We always try to obey His leading even when it does not make sense from a business, logical, or financial standpoint. Jesus' heart beats with love for the poor and hurting and he has transformed the lives of thousands of precious women and children who have called Shepherd's Gate home. Many times it has literally been a matter of life and death.
The vision God gave for this ministry years ago was to help rescue women and children at risk in the Bay Area and then in other countries as he leads. Shepherd's Gate's first international outreach is in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Leni Barber is the Shelter Manager in Costa Rica and has been a missionary in Central America for 18 years and has been working with women and children at risk down there for the past 13 years. She has given her life to help rescue these hurting women and kids and has the same heart and vision to see restored lives as we do here at Shepherd's Gate.
The shelter opened it's doors Fall of 2007 and will be home for up to 18 women and children at a time.
